Always use a registered waste carrier, like us, to provide a skip and/or collect your waste. Check the Environment Agency waste carrier register.
We provide a bulky household waste-collection service for many common household items. We collect a maximum of 9 items. Large items count as more than one item, depending on size. Collection of these items should be requested using the online forms on this page. Please read the guidance before making your request.
Depending on what you need collecting we offer booking for:
• Large items only (list below)
• One large item combined with 0- 3 standard items.
• Standard items.
Please view the list of large items before booking and this will help you complete the process. The drop-down menus in the forms will help direct you.
If you cannot find the items listed, then we cannot collect it.
Please note that all items collected as part of the bulky waste service are disposed as waste. Only Hazardous items can be recycled. Please donate good items if possible.
Giving away or donating your unwanted items
Before you ask us to collect an unwanted large or bulky item, please check if you can pass it on to someone else who can use it. This will also save you money.
All items that we collect with our standard bulky item collection service are disposed of as waste.
For example, you could:
- contact local charities like Emmaus, Cambridge Re-Use or British Heart Foundation which collect large suitable items for re-use
- sell or give it away using Gumtree, Freecycle, Freegle, eBay or Facebook marketplace
- take it to Milton recycling centre or Thriplow recycling centre if you can transport it
- check whether it can be taken away by the company delivering a replacement product (for example mattress or white goods)
- If it's not a big bulky item but a quantity of smaller household items like clothing, toys, kitchenware or small electrical items that are in good condition, you can donate these to many charity shops or arrange a free collection from Anglo Doorstep Collections
Check our recycling and rubbish A to Z for advice about specific items.

On your collection day
Bulky collections are taken from the (front) edge of your property where the property, garden or driveway meets the public path, should your items be unable to be placed at the front of your property, this will need to flagged with refuse department prior to collection. Only properties that do not have front access to a public roadway will have alternative collections point agreed.
The collection crews cannot enter your property which is why we ask for the items to be left where the property meets the public path , unobstructed.
Should your property be located on a private road or with no clear access to a public path, you will need to contact the refuse department to see if an alternative collection point can be agreed prior to your booking, we may not be able to service all areas and will advise accordingly. Please email at refuse@scambs.gov.uk
Please note on occasion, if an item is considered too heavy to be safely lifted by our collection crew, it will not be collected, and a refund will be issued.
If items are not presented correctly or exceed the number booked they may not be collected and additional charges may apply.
If the crew are not able to find your item(s) based on the criteria above, it will be marked as 'not found' and you will have to re-book and pay again if you want the item(s) to be re-collected.
Check the weather forecast, and cover anything that might be affected by bad weather.
Please reinforce glass panels and secure them with tape so they do not shatter.
Collections will take place between 6am and 3.30pm, so make sure your items are ready for collection by 6am.
We will not remove any items that you do not include in your request – do not leave any extra items for collection.
If you need to cancel your bulky/hazardous waste collection, please contact us at least two working days before your scheduled collection
